Andover Charm and Some Outdoor Attractions

East of Wichita is a 10 square mile city called Andover. The city lies in Butler County along with El Dorado and borders the east side of Sedgwick County. This is a popular town for families that work and commute to Wichita but prefer a more low key residence than the friendly but slightly quicker pace of a medium sized Midwest city like Wichita. Only about 15-30 mins apart, the two locations have plenty in common while feeling separate at the same time.

Referred to as The Gateway to the Prairie, Andover has great schools, reasonably priced homes, and a peaceful vibe that continues to attract young families to the area. Plenty of outdoor activities exist for residents, including the Redbud Trail which runs east and west through Andover and slightly beyond. A total of 15 miles are included in the mostly paved route which follows a path originally used by railroad trains that imported and exported goods to the area. Learn a bit more about the history here as well as learn how it may expand (through community support) to neighboring cities.

A modern landmark that has hosted rock bands and major names such as the Styx, Foreigner, and Keb Mo, is the Capitol Federal Amphitheater. The venue can entertain over 10,000 guests when you account for lawn and additional seating. It is owned by the city and managed by Legends Global. Once the new Morton Amphitheater is completed, it will make Capitol Federal Amphitheater the largest outdoor amphitheater in Kansas. It is situated in Andover Central Park which has great walking paths around Lake George, a newly updated playground, public library, and a lake stocked with fish for recreational fishing. Active city dwellers enjoy free movie nights in the summer but one of the most popular draws is the Greater Andover Days which smashes together all kinds of activities like a car show, arts and craft fair, parade, an organized run, fireworks and so much more.

In recent years, the employment in Andover has grown along with the population and home prices. It's the most populated city in Butler County with more than 16,000 people calling it home. The median age trends on the younger side (around 35 years) who might enjoy the popular neighborhoods of Cresent Lakes, Green Valley and Terradyne. With popularity comes a call for responsible growth, making sure that Andover doesn't lose its small town feel as it experiences one of the highest growth periods out of all Kansas cities.
